Premium blue light filter

Functionality meets aesthetics

Glasses with blue light filter: your advantages

In the course of digitalisation and in times of digital work, we spend many hours a day staring at the screens of our laptops, tablets and smartphones. The blue light from these screens can tire the eyes and irritate them. Blue light filter glasses can noticeably relieve eyestrain. A blue light filter is not only for people who wear glasses with prescription lenses. Even if your eyesight is unimpaired, blue light filter glasses can lead to positive effects.

Regular lenses with a blue light filter protect against short-wave HEV light, but have a shimmering residual reflection. The VIU premium blue light filter combines our high-quality anti-reflective lenses with an innovative blue light filter. Thanks to a new coating technology, VIU succeeded at eliminating the shimmer. Our VIU premium blue light filter is an innovative lens that is the premium version of a regular blue light filter.

The difference: no distracting residual reflections on the lens. Our high-quality lenses come from our Swiss manufacturer Optiswiss and can be added as an inexpensive upgrade when purchasing VIU glasses (with or without prescription). The fusion of premium lenses and our innovative blue light filter allows your eyes to relax and you to look great — without compromising on aesthetics.

What is blue light?

Sunlight contains different coloured lights (red, orange, yellow, green and blue) with varying energy and wavelengths. Combined, this spectrum of coloured light produces sunlight, which we know as visible sunlight or “white light”.

This light comprises a spectrum with a wavelength of approx. 380 to 750nm of light. Blue light, on the other hand, is a part of the light spectrum with a shorter wavelength (380 to 500nm) and high energy. That’s why it’s also known as High Energy Visible Light (HEV light). Blue light is found in natural light, but also in artificial lighting, such as light emitted by screens.

Potentially dangerous blue-violet radiation lies between 400 and 455nm, therefore it’s short-wave. The eye is most at risk in this range. With our new VIU premium blue light filter, the light transmission in this range is reduced by up to 45%. However, blue light is not only dangerous for our eyes, but also for our biological rhythm: it suppresses the production of the sleep hormone melatonin.
