Responsible and sustainable action has been a top priority at VIU ever since our founding in 2013. With our VIU RE initiative, we are sending a clear signal for conscious consumption and sustainable change in the eyewear industry – and we are actively working to continuously improve, especially in terms of sustainability.

Our collections consist of selected models. They are convincing thanks to a perfect symbiosis of design and function. The high quality of our products is always in the foreground – with the goal of creating the best possible products from the smallest volume of materials.

Sustainable material

All our eyewear is made from the highest quality materials to guarantee a long life. With the new RE Collection made from the innovative Acetate Renew, we are taking the first step towards an even more responsible future. By 2025, we will convert our entire acetate collection to this sustainable material – which consists of 96% sustainable components.

The longevity of our products is only one aspect of responsible action. That’s why we constantly work with our partners to develop innovative solutions for enhanced circularity. As a partner of the “Shades of Love” initiative, we give eyewear a second life, thus lengthening its lifecycle even further.

FAQ

What is your vision with regard to responsibility?

We want to keep advancing the theme of product sustainability. By 2025, we want to convert 75% of our acetate collection to EASTMAN ACETATE RENEW and to increase the percentage of our 3D-printed eyewear to 20%. In addition, we are currently working with MyClimate to achieve our targeted reductions in CO2 emissions, which we will implement in the coming months and years. After the analysis is complete, we plan to implement sustainability initiatives across our entire company to achieve these targets and implement climate action.

How does VIU address the topic of responsibility?

We believe that sustainable behaviour must come from within and be driven by all departments. That’s why we have established a cross-departmental team to prioritise the theme of sustainability throughout our company. From energy-saving measures in our stores and headquarters to the introduction of reusable solutions for our internal deliveries and the reduction of single-use packaging in our offices, the team is constantly searching for solutions to further reduce the environmental footprint of our actions.

Why don’t you offer eyewear made of bamboo or “ocean plastic”?

At first glance, bamboo and ocean plastic may seem to be more sustainable materials, but they do not meet our high standards of quality. Those standards are our top priority so we can guarantee the longevity of our products. That’s why we have consciously decided to collaborate with the best manufacturers in order to be able to offer the best possible products. Our high-quality acetate and our durable titanium are still the better alternatives when it comes to the quality of the products. We are constantly conducting tests with innovative materials and actively working to find suitable alternatives that uphold our quality standards and guarantee an equally long lifecycle.
